Engineering vs. Development Mode
Engineering is a complete engineering mode that allows full control of coding (manual coding without rules). It allows users to make small changes to the code, such as increasing the boost pressure of MFD, enabling sport sensors, and enabling g-force readings. It can also run standard auto/manual coding for modifications, for example, PDLS+ activation or converting Xenon to LED. In the engineering version, there is no V (after-sales mode) or P (production mode).
Development has most of the development features but not the full development mode. It doesn't have manual coding without rules, so you can't make the small changes mentioned above. However, you can use it to add features using auto/manual coding rules — like PDLS+, lane-keeping assistance, speed sign recognition, cruise control, etc.
Both versions have all other features like troubleshooting guidance, vehicle maintenance, VAL, fault codes, diagnostics, programming, etc. The only difference is the lack of manual coding without rules and no V or P modes.
Switching between the 43.300.22 and 38.3 programs is done in the exclusive shell of the Porsche PIWIS TESTER. There's no need to restart the computer to change the program version and operating system.
