Why Wireless CarPlay Doesn't Work in Some Countries — and How to Enable Native Wireless CarPlay (No Dongle)

The problem: CarPlay works by cable, but not wirelessly

On Porsche PCM5 and the related Audi/VW MH2P infotainment systems, wireless Apple CarPlay requires a 5 GHz Wi-Fi access point in the head unit. In many countries the car's regional coding disables the 5 GHz band, so CarPlay only works with a cable — even though the hardware fully supports wireless.

Which countries are affected

Wireless CarPlay is disabled by default (5 GHz off) on cars configured for markets including: Japan, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Israel, India, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Indonesia, Chile, and a number of others. The lock follows the car's build/region configuration, so imported and region-specific cars are the most commonly affected.

You do not need a wireless CarPlay dongle
